Pete

I've been a model railway enthusiast for more than five decades. I've worked in several scales and gauges - including HO standard gauge and On30.

I became interested in S scale through my interest in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays Railway, a 42" gauge common carrier with just over a mile of track that was built to connect two lakes in Ontario's Muskoka region. (There's a history of this line on Charles Cooper's Railway Pages and the "Portage Flyer" still operates as a preservation line.)

I chose S to model the Portage Flyer because 1:64 models built to 42" gauge can run on HO scale standard gauge track and use HO mechanisms for power. In addition, in S scale the Huntsville and Lake of Bays Railway's narrow gauge equipment was about the same size as HO standard gauge equipment, which gave me many locomotive and rolling stock kit-bashing possibilities.

In addition to model railroading, I enjoy antique British sports cars and photography.
